The Water Is Wide

This next group is actually the very first group
That I started singing with back in whenever it was many years ago
Then they were young and I was middle-aged
So um, at that time I thought, oh, man, seeing these really young people
I'ma get this cool new audience of lots of young people

And one couple came back one night
And they had come to see the Indigo Girls, yeah, she's coming out
And they said, um, came back stage and said
"We weren't gonna stay and see you," but they
They suggested that we do and it was pretty good
Okay, Indigo Girls, Mary Chapin Carpenter

The water is wide, I can't cross o'er
And neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I

Oh, love is gentle and love is kind
The sweetest flower when first is new
But grows old and waxes cold
And fades away like morning dew

There is a ship, and she sails the sea
She's loaded deep as deep can be
But not as deep as the love I'm in
I know not I, I sink or swim

The water is wide, I can't cross o'er
And neither I have wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I

And both shall row, my love and I
