Ballad of the Broken Few

It comes to me across the years,
A tune from long ago,
A well loved song, a wistful air, the one that she loves so.

We'd hear it on those sunny days,
From the bird perched at his post,
Barring forth his light and joyful tones, from note to purest note.

I said hey come together,
Under the nightingales soaring tune,
Here we will all remember her in the ballad of the broken few.

We little guessed changes meant,
Had sorrows up ahead,
How soon those fine and care free days will turn to doom and dread.

And though the years went drifting,
An age it passed us by,
No smile or verse could half compare to her last fermenting line.

I said hey come together,
Under the nightingales soaring tune,
Here we will all remember her in the ballad of the broken few.

Now all alone I rest my time,
In the muted melody,
No deep refrain could ease my pain or replace such harmony.

I said hey come together,
Under the nightingales soaring tune,
Here we will all remember her in the ballad of the broken few,
I said hey come together,
Under the nightingales soaring tune,
Here we will all remember her in the ballad of the broken few,
I said hey come together,
Under the nightingales soaring tune,
Here we will all remember her in the ballad of the broken few.
