Farewell Stony Ground

In our town there's no comfort around
Mostly it's hunger and toil
Underground you could dig for a pound
And disturb the remains of the royals
With the poor left to drown, and the sick and the old
Dunno what trickles down, but it sure isn't gold

But I'm here with my heart full, like a carnival
Sat in my vagrant car park
And no I'm not Karl Marx
But it makes me laugh
Like flowers you see growing on stony ground
And it's time to be going so farewell stony ground

It's a scam that makes a rich man
And this is me doing it my way
You prefer the term "entrepreneur"
But both of us rob on the highway
I just put out my stand, then moved it along
And I made a few grand long before you caught on

Now I'm here with my heart full, like a carnival
Sat in my vagrant car park
And no I'm not Karl Marx
But it makes me laugh
Like flowers you see growing on stony ground
And it's time to be going so farewell stony ground

In our town there are spirits ground down
While others are living in clover
They bought shares in apples and dare
And had everywhere mostly paved over
In this one square of planet that nobody owns
You won't see the rich man drive over my bones

'Cause I'm here with my heart full, like a carnival
Sat in my vagrant car park
And no I'm not Karl Marx
But it makes me laugh
Like flowers you see growing on stony ground
And it's time to be going so farewell stony ground

I'm here with my heart full, like a carnival
Sat in my vagrant car park
And no I'm not Karl Marx
But it lights the dark
Like a fair you see showing on stony ground
And it's time to be going so farewell stony ground
