The Veery
the veery nests on the ground.
she sings so sweetly
a high and silvery sound.
by the time the peonies fall down
she has flown.
the veery, makes her way
a perilous journey so far away
clouds and winds won't blow her astray
from the orinoco.
my feet are bound to the forest floor
i have no wings, i cannot soar
my voice uncertain, rough and unsure
return veery to my back door.
winter is dreary, chilly and dark
we grow weary, wishing for a spark
fires burning, spring return
bring that silvery song.
she sings so sweetly
a high and silvery sound.
by the time the peonies fall down
she has flown.
the veery, makes her way
a perilous journey so far away
clouds and winds won't blow her astray
from the orinoco.
my feet are bound to the forest floor
i have no wings, i cannot soar
my voice uncertain, rough and unsure
return veery to my back door.
winter is dreary, chilly and dark
we grow weary, wishing for a spark
fires burning, spring return
bring that silvery song.
