Carry On
A little old lady went to talk to her preacher
This is what she had to say
She said, "Some of our members have started carrying on
And acting in a very undignified way
They've been saying Amen in the middle of the service
Shouting out loud, and is makes me nervous
Preacher, I've had about all I can take
Please do something, for heaven's sake"
Well the preacher thought it over for a minute or two
About the way it used to be
When the service just lasted for under an hour
And nothing counted for eternity
You see, the choir used to sing and the people would stare
The invitation came but the altar was bare
Then he said to the sister as he showed her to door
I'll do something, and that's for sure
Well, the very next Sunday as he started his sermon
This became his number one goal
To remind the people of how it used to be
Before the Lord came and took control
He said, some of our members have started this carrying on
Lifting their voices and praising the Lord
Others don't understand why you act this way
But this is all I have to say
Carry on, brothers and sisters
Carry on, misses and misters
You see it does not matter what others say or do
Carry on if the Lord has been good to you
You can praise the Lord and even raise your hands
Shout Hallelujah and say Amen
The church has been quiet for much too long
Brothers and sisters, carry on
Now the Lord has opened up the windows of heaven
And his glory is filling this place
The Spirit of the Lord is moving among the people
There's a smile on each and every face
So let the preacher preach and let the saints respond
Get behind us Satan we are carrying on
Carry on, brothers and sisters
Carry on, misses and misters, mmm, yeah
You see it does not matter what others say or do
Carry on if the Lord has been good to you
Praise the Lord and raise your hands
Shout Hallelujah and say Amen
The church has been quiet for much too long
Brothers and sisters, carry on
Carry on, brothers and sisters
Carry on, misses and misters
You see it does not matter what others say or do
Carry on because God has been good to you
You can praise the Lord and even raise your hands
Shout Hallelujah and say Amen
The church has been quiet for much too long
Brothers and sisters
Misses and misters, yes, ma'am, yes sir
Brothers and sisters
Why don't you carry on
Amen!
