What's Going on

Mother, mother - There's too many people crying
Brother, brother - There's far too many people dying

You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Father, father - We don't need to escalate
War is not the answer
Only love can conquer hate

You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

These headlines and protest signs
And all I see is brutality
Talk to me, so you can see

What's going on
What's going on

Everybody so quick to judge a book, based upon the cover
Turn their cheek, before they turn one page
Just define me categorically, question me rhetorically
Like I'm the one that's stopping the change
Well here's my 2 cents
We got it wrong, cuz it sure ain't nothing right about it
Instead of standing up and fighting, we just writing about it
So passive and aggressive, passing on a message
As history repeats its clear we never learned the lesson

Mother, Mother - they don't think we have a clue
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply for our point of view
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today

These headlines and protest signs
And all I see is brutality
Talk to me, so you can see

What's going on
What's going on

We all bleed the same blood don't care what your hue is
Black brown white or green Muslim or Jewish
You can be the poorest or your blood could be the bluest
But the common thread we share is that we all are human
We dug ourselves so deep, it's finally hitting a nerve
See how wide we divide where our paths used to converge
If we believe in one another, it's nothing we can't do
Nothing we can't see, nothing we can't prove
So tell me what's going on
I'm talking to you
