The Jewel
From Jervaulx abbey to Middleham
On an ancient path she did ride
And there lost her precious jewel
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
Where did you lose that wondrous jewel
And will it ever be found
Were you a duchess what was your name
No one saw it lying there on the ground
No one saw it lying there on the ground
From Barnard Castle to Middleham
To a path Ted Seaton did go
And there found a precious jewel
When washed and cleaned the gold it did glow
When washed and cleaned the gold it did glow
Where did you find that wondrous jewel
By luck it has now been found
Who lost it we will never know
They had not seen it lying there on the ground
They had not seen it lying there on the ground
A double sided pendant of gold
So intricately engraved
In a museum for us to see
It is now safely displayed
From Jervaulx abbey to Middleham
On an ancient path she did ride
And there lost her precious jewel
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
On an ancient path she did ride
And there lost her precious jewel
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
Where did you lose that wondrous jewel
And will it ever be found
Were you a duchess what was your name
No one saw it lying there on the ground
No one saw it lying there on the ground
From Barnard Castle to Middleham
To a path Ted Seaton did go
And there found a precious jewel
When washed and cleaned the gold it did glow
When washed and cleaned the gold it did glow
Where did you find that wondrous jewel
By luck it has now been found
Who lost it we will never know
They had not seen it lying there on the ground
They had not seen it lying there on the ground
A double sided pendant of gold
So intricately engraved
In a museum for us to see
It is now safely displayed
From Jervaulx abbey to Middleham
On an ancient path she did ride
And there lost her precious jewel
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
For her lost jewel her tears she could not hide
