Life and Death
For one hundred years I walked this world alone
I never needed anybody to change the path I was on
Then one fateful day I caught his scent
Never felt something so strong. I didn't know what it meant
I looked into his eyes, tried to read what was in his mind
I couldn't tell anything about him. For the first time I felt blind
I had the urge to hurt him. His blood scent burned as bright as day
To keep him safe I had to leave but I couldn't stay away
But how did these hearts, separated by time
Under these grey skies, how did their hearts combine?
The Quileute legends made no mention of this line
But their two hearts combined. So why can't mine?
My first day, new town. Saw her sitting from the crowd
They said she wasn't interested, they said she was too proud
But something drew me near, I was fascinated
My friends, they joked I was obsessed, I felt agitated
I'd never felt something like this, I was out of my head
I couldn't escape this strange feeling I could end up here dead
The changing colours of her eyes left me reeling
And when I saw her late at night, was I dreaming?
But how did these hearts, separated by time
Under these grey skies, how did their hearts combine?
The Quileute legends made no mention of this line
But their two hearts combined. So why can't mine?
The muted light of another cloudy day eventually woke me
I lay with my arm across my eyes, groggy and dazed
Something, a dream trying to be remembered, struggled to break into my consciousness
I moaned and rolled on my side, hoping more sleep would come
And then yesterday came flooding back into my memory
I never needed anybody to change the path I was on
Then one fateful day I caught his scent
Never felt something so strong. I didn't know what it meant
I looked into his eyes, tried to read what was in his mind
I couldn't tell anything about him. For the first time I felt blind
