Since You Stayed Here

I have been very fortunate in my career
To have appeared in some of Broadway longest runnin' musicals
But that was not always the case for me
The first show I ever did on Broadway ran for two weeks
My next show wasn't quite that successful and ran for one week
I've also done a number of Off-Broadway musicals
And many of them had aspirations of movin' to Broadway
And one that I remember with a great deal of fondness was a show called "Brownstone"
It never made it to Broadway
But it left behind I think a very special score

You'd never recognise the room
The pictures all have different frames now
And all the chairs are rearranged now, somehow
I've thrown out every souvenir
Yes, there've been changes made since you stayed here

You'd never recognise the street
The neighbours kids play different games now
The colors in the trees have changed now, strange how
I've hardly thought of you this year
Yes, there've been changes made since you stayed here

The same address
Well, more or less
More happens
Less matters
I guess

You'd never recognise my life
I play a much more careful game now
And when I cry it's not the same now, somehow
I never waste a single tear
Yes there've been changes made since you stayed here

You'd never recognise the room
