Roger the Tailor

Up in the early hour
Before the throng has made a sound
He's already down
One floor beneath his lodge and
One wall beside "The house of pawn" -
The best one in town

Roger the Tailor, he sits on his table all day long
Whistling a song
His body is aching but short as he is it's pretty strong
Now he hears a "ding dong".

In comes a buxom lady
She reeks of smoke and cheap perfume
She says, How do you do!
Well, I'd like to place an order
My dress has shrunk since I saw you
I need something new!

I've got new fabric from Paris, he says
Not too expensive and it's elastic
This stuff is fantastic!
So come back tomorrow
I'll ad to your waist but it won't be too drastic
Not too enthusiastic?...OK

Now she leaves and slams the door
Roger falls down to the floor, what dame!
She's off for tea at the Savoy
A cover up for the "fille de joie", what shame!!
Enough is enough - he says, and climbs up again
Like his father before, before him

Roger the Tailor, he looks at the time and hurries on
- he's almost done
His body is aching but short as he is it's pretty strong
He hears "ding dong".
