Playground Waltz

Little Tommy Taylor was a very lonely boy
Who spent every break time alone with his toys
He was just too shy to play with the other boys
And was always so quiet - never making a noise
Then, one day, when he was playing all alone
With the toys that he found in his old grandma's home
He heard a tapping from the attic
Rat-at-tat-tatting, he looked at it
Then suddenly... as if by magic

He saw another boy coming down the stairs
And at first little tommy he felt a bit scared
But then the boy smiled, speaking softly he said
"You don't need to fear me, I'll be your friend
Though others will say that I'm only pretend
I am real to you and you are real to me
Even if noone else will ever believe
As long as you trust in me, I will exist
So take my hand now and let's be best friends
And together we will be until the very very end"

So Tommy made a promise right then crossed his heart
And he hoped to die if they were ever apart
And from that day on they were always together
Tommy's friend, he was guiding him at every endeavor
He taught little Tommy to play all sorts of tricks
That would only be known by the most naughty kids
And in the background Tommy's friend he just laughed
As he lead him into trouble and up the garden path
And then one day, his friend, he had an idea
He said: "Let's run away, let's get out of here"
But Tommy didn't like it and as he'd got a bit older
He was getting sick and tired of this voice on his shoulder
So he said "I don't want to do these things that you suggest
You're a bad influence and you're becoming a pest
I think I need to have some time on my own
This friendship of ours i think I have outgrown"

Well his little friend he didn't like that
He felt wounded and that he had to strike back
His tongue flared And his cold eyes flashed
As he exploded in rage and he screamed like mad
How dare you abandon me? How dare you try to leave
Our friendship behind you and forget about me?
Don't even think about spreading your wings to go
And leaving me in this world all on my own...
I need you Tommy, don't you understand
That you made me complete when you first took my hand
My life without you just won't be the same
Please don't leave me, please let's play... one more game"

So Tommy agreed to play just one more time
The begging and pleading he he just couldn't deny
He was never quite able to say no or goodbye
And this weakness stayed with him for the rest of his life
So take heed children of Tommy's little lesson
And be careful of people who make such impressions
And beware of those people who say they're your friends
But they aren't real... they are only pretend
