If I Were Reprieved

If I were reprieved from this sentence laid upon me
So many worthwhile things I could invest my remaining time in

Ole temptation
Lurks around every corner
Trying to come for you

And man is nothing
But a slave to his instincts
Wrestling every second

So it's no wonder
So many fall by the wayside
Move away from the light

And they choose
To willingly destroy cells
And not to cultivate them

And I can't blame them
For these urges seem to be part of our innermost workings
And I can't blame them
How often had I felt quite the same?

Think what you will
Call it fate call it bad luck
Hang in there or give up

But whatever you do
Just don't give yourself up
Unlock your potential

And I'm not asking
For your sympathy, there's no use in it for me
But I'm just asking
For open minds to be inspired

My body in chains, but my mind is free
There is no one in charge but me
With no one above me, my mind can be free
There is no one in charge but me
