Close To the Water

I used to live in the mountain side
Where the air was cold and dry
I came a long way to this place
And never knew the reason why
So many people I had known
Seemed to live a much better life
There ain't much use in tryin to run and hide

I met a lady long ago
She was living in a foreign land
She had to teach me right or wrong
And she took me by the hand
Her words of wisdom oh so clear
Made me feel just like another man
And then I started breathing once again

Close to the water
I let the river flow
I went down to the gardens
I watched the flowers grow
I went down to the waterline
To see where I belong
Close to the water
Let it show

Now I live in the countryside
Where the air is soft and warm
I walked a long way to this place
- a place I feel at home
So many people I have known
Have been searching for a better life
There ain't no use in tryin to run and hide
