Loss

The rain that falls outside my window
Brings back memories laid still
Thoughts locked below subconscious
That somehow stir my head to fill
With memories on days so sunny
Or when the rain was falling down
The innocence of a small heart beating
That somehow slipped out of my bounds

I can't pretend that I still feel that way
When I was young and free
My Lord, it's been too long
But I suppose that is the price we pay
When all we do is question
What is right and wrong

And sitting alone in the quiet
Something seems to take me there
Nothing every can define it
The memories of when life was fair
Growing up has burned those bridges
That we've all been shoved across
The marker of a childhood ended
The final and most sacred loss

I can't pretend that I still feel that way
When I was young and free
My Lord, it's been too long
But I suppose that is the price we pay
When all we do is question
What is right and wrong

So many try to find them
Those days when we were honest
But God loves me and I'm His child
I find my youth in His arms
