Plastic Rose
From a vase on a coffee shop table
Mary picked herself a flower
While I called a number on a business card
But they said call back in an hour
So I sat down next to Mary
And I said "you shouldn't eat I suppose"
But Mary didn't say anything to me
She just held a Plastic Rose
"You two look so sweet" The waitress said
"So when is the lucky day?"
I ordered a coke and tried to smile
Until the waitress went away
"Do you think she knew?" Mary said
"Do you think that it really shows?"
Then she folded her hands in her lap
And she held a Plastic Rose
And I feel like I should say something
But what, I don't know
When I offer her my hand
She turns away
And she holds a Plastic Rose
I smoke my last cigarette
And watched the clock on the wall
Mary didn't say anything to me
When I said it was time to call
Well, we talked about it for a week
Both agreeing in what we chose
So I called a number on a business card
And she held a Plastic Rose
Mary picked herself a flower
While I called a number on a business card
But they said call back in an hour
So I sat down next to Mary
And I said "you shouldn't eat I suppose"
But Mary didn't say anything to me
She just held a Plastic Rose
"You two look so sweet" The waitress said
"So when is the lucky day?"
I ordered a coke and tried to smile
Until the waitress went away
"Do you think she knew?" Mary said
"Do you think that it really shows?"
Then she folded her hands in her lap
And she held a Plastic Rose
And I feel like I should say something
But what, I don't know
When I offer her my hand
She turns away
And she holds a Plastic Rose
I smoke my last cigarette
And watched the clock on the wall
Mary didn't say anything to me
When I said it was time to call
Well, we talked about it for a week
Both agreeing in what we chose
So I called a number on a business card
And she held a Plastic Rose
