Catch and Release

Oh Rosie, won't you visit me?
I'm in a bad way, and I can't seem to shake it.
Remember the one with eyes like the sun?
It turns out I was wrong

I wish I could say it had gone my way,
But instead I've just been waiting in vain.
I keep playing the record foreward and back,
And it's driving me mad.

But, I was a fool to believe,
To blind to see
I'm just a pawn in a game of catch and release.

Every time he cut the line,
I thought I'd make it out alive
Until he'd reel me in just to toss me back
And he did it with a smile.

Oh Rose, you'd know just what to say.
It's not like me to get this bent out of shape,
But I was chasing a dream down a one way street
And now it's out of sight.

I guess some people don't want the real thing.
You wouldn't recognize it if all you've seen is a
Photograph of a painting
On a pixilated screen.

I was a fool to believe,

So, I had to write it down.

There's a lesson to be learned in all of this,
And that's all he gave to me.
Victory is learning how to bow out gracefully.
Don't hold your breathe,
The future's always hand-in-hand with fate
And part of growing up is knowing when to walk away
