Three

Through the black smoke
I see the white smoke
It's strangely poetic
But both mean we're burning

They came in the night
With torches and everything
We fought for their right
But it didn't mean anything

Freedom Summer
Bleeding brothers
Suffered for suffrage
Handcuffed and locked up

The three of us
Not free enough
Only us plus god
Make it mean anything
God, make it mean anything

I'm a martyr with eyes wide open

Stopped on the highway
I lay here waiting
For the sound of gunshot
Hang on to the good thoughts

It's still in this light
With the fear all around me
They can hear I'm still breathing
God make it mean anything

No longer
Shall we suffer
Our brothers will carry on
With a terrible fury

The three of us
Backs to the furious
Our freedom summer
Belongs to the others

I'm a martyr with eyes wide open

I've seen Heaven mixed with blood
