Morning Phase

Picture books they never explained
The answers to those puzzling games
I call lifelong dreams bashed by tragedies in a daze
I find the pictures in my mind
I'm intoxicated by the heat of the times
Head's on straight
My head's in place

Why's my compass taking me backwards
And I keep on running home

And then looking at you I look to the sky
Freckles of blue seem to sting my eye
I know the clouds coat the upward see in white
Oh walls I stared at in photographs
Memories that melt my past
To the seams of the pillows
Which I used to lay
Not today

And I'm memorizing puzzles
And missing my past
To the future of unknown tales
And I'm begging for it back

It is rock and roll without a song
No a burnt out tune love's done me wrong
Ways to see people to meet
And hysteric laughter becomes disease
I'm melting in those memories oh I
Could take the chance
If you could too
Bend the rules

I'll be memorizing puzzles
And I'll be missing my own past
These futures of unknown tales
And I'm begging for it back
