A Mom and Her Son

She peeks into his room again
He's not asleep still he pretends
'Cause he knows she could use a good night's sleep

She stares up at the summer sky
In silent prayer she's asking why
A loving God could choose to be so cruel

She runs upstairs when she hears fragile footsteps
And finds him kneeling on the bathroom floor

And he says...

Rock me like a baby
And sooth me like you do
I don't feel like a fighter tonight
Hold me tight and get me through the night
Make me believe it's gonna be alright

He'll spend the night curled by her side
Tonight the pain surmounts his pride
He doesn't want to face his fears alone

She won't accept it truth be told
Her angel's only 10 years old
Should be about 5th grade and little league

She wishes she could kiss away the hurting
She wishes she could hug away the pain

And then she...

Rock him like a baby
And soothes me like she does
She don't feel like a fighter tonight
She holds him tight and get him through the night
Makes him believe it's gonna be alright

It's gonna be alright

Rock me like a baby
And sooth me like you do
I don't feel like a fighter tonight
Hold me tight and get me through the night
Make me believe it's gonna be alright
