Armis
Last night something hit close to home
I was sitting alone feeling the notes through my bones
Until
I flipped up my phone
That's when the night turned to stone
I heard the patter of bullets, the crackle of guns
They rattled through bodies, in the town I am from
Realization spread through my face as I noticed that we all now had become complacent
Never expecting the madness to Eclipse our Light
Nothing but the darkness could be seen all that night
Those tall buildings that should shine so bright
They are not shining at all
Were shaded in the minds of those that had to choose fight or flight
Last week something infected the streets I roam
A tragedy that forced its way into our homes
Our little safe zones
Not a single thought about impending doom
As we all sat so comfortably in our rooms
A few miles away innocents were swallowed in gloom
A shame that something like this could loom
Over and bloom while it consumes
It's not right that one man, or even a small group could have one plan, or even stage a coup
A couple small thoughts from a few that put our comfort out of view
Now all that's left is an ominous shade of gray that we'll now see every year on this day
Never expecting the madness to Eclipse our Light
Nothing but the darkness could be seen all that night
Those tall buildings that should shine so bright
They are not shining at all
Were shaded in the minds of those that had to choose fight or flight
All this time, we've been alright
We just act
Like I won't die tonight
All this time, we've been alright
We just act
Like this life isn't finite
All this time, we've been alright
We just act
Like I won't die tonight
All this time we've been alright
We just act
Like "his life isn't finite
Life isn't finite this life isn't finite
Life isn't finite I won't die tonight
Something so close to home
Something I've never known
In these troubled times
I just hope you know
Never expecting the madness to Eclipse our Light
Nothing but the darkness could be seen all that night
Never expecting the madness to Eclipse our Light
Nothing but the darkness could be seen all that night
Those tall buildings that should be shining so bright
They are not shining at all
Were shaded in the minds of those who had to choose fight or flight
Something so close to home
Something I've never known
In these troubled times
I just hope you know
You are not alone
I was sitting alone feeling the notes through my bones
