Decorated Horses

You led the decorated horses in a circular display
And they announced your name to reveal who'd won first place
You took a victory lap, you gave the crowd a modest wave
And you tipped your hat to the judge of the parade

But is it enough a fleeting flirt with fame
A fantasy or lust for all the ugly ways
I turn our luck to dust and celebrate it's passing in the morning
Then at night

You gently press your lips against a pane of empty glass
And your guitar justifies the mask
You wear both day and night to keep your feet out of bed
Far from the clouded moon and the city star's lament

But is it enough an unending nocturnal craving
Of an adrenaline rush that keeps us out believing
There's something in it for us but we'll celebrate it passing in the morning
Just like we always do

All the Sunday people they sing a sorry song of loss
And we paid in verse for what the chorus cost
We built a bridge to cross the gap between the two of them
And we gave up on how good it could've been

So we sang our song with anyone else believing
They all sang along and walked away all acting like
We did nothing wrong we'll celebrate it's passing
In the morning when its done
