Gray Walls

I stare at the walls that you've painted gray
And silence will scrape through the room
Though we both have things to say

You'll rest by my side
And we'll talk of the trains in the distance
Of where they're going
And why nobody on them wants to stay

But I'm staying here tonight

You've built up your walls
With extroverts over years
And energy shifted so as to not let it disappear
But how many men must you take on the chin
Before you shine a light on yourself
And see if it cracks to let something in

But my walls are aging too

We passed in the hallway
Of the place you work
And I didn't know what to say
You smile and nod
And chock is up to an aura haze

We'll stare at the walls that you've painted gray
You'll sit by my side and ask me if I want to stay
Please don't feel bad
You said what you had to say
Like the paper on the wall
The stitches on your sleeve are all torn and frayed

But I'm staying here tonight
