I Heard Nothing From You

Caught the train to city fringe,
My nose pressed on the glass,
As fluoro cuts terracotta hues,
Capeweed splits the tracks.
I don't notice the ticket man,
Who's asked me for the second time:
"Where you going son?
There's nothing left,
We've hit the end of the line. "I confused everything,
I lost my sense of place and time.
I blamed it on the data man,
Who dropped me as I copped my fine,
I heard nothing from you.

I've 50 cents for a dial tone,
But your number is forever changing.
I need a lift coz it's getting late,
I really can't be bothered walking.
I settle for a taxi cab,
But I'm asked before I step inside:
"Where you going son?
I'm turning left,
I can't take you if you're heading right. "I wandered on a bit,
I wandered on through the night,
Aimless and a little lost,
Under trees instead of city lights,
I heard nothing from you.
