How We Made It Through

Looking back on what I've done I wonder why I'm here today
My wife and son, a constant reminder of what I could've thrown away
I should've died countless times, alive because of the ones who stayed
And everyday is another chance to do everything I can to earn what I have today

And all the times you helped me stand
When I was keeping myself down
I'd look up to see a hand
When I'd kept both of mine bound

Looking back on countless yesterdays that should've been my last
How did I ever make it though?
Years, when I was my worst enemy
My family stood right by my side and my friends stayed true
How did I make it through? It's all because of you

Older ones when I was young gave me shelter from the storm
Tried to protect and keep me in check and now
I'm walking strong As far as I can tell, this world's a living hell I'll give back what I'm shown and that's why I'll never walk alone

Suddenly I see the man that I've become
The scars I hide inside remind me where
I'm from The debt I owe you all can never be repaid
All I have is a path to get better everyday
