True Friends
We've all had plenty of friends in air quotes
Who hang with you only to borrow banknotes
No they have no guilt in their transparency
But ask them the same and just watch them flee
Then there's some friends out there on Facebook
Who beg you to like them and give them a look
They tweet, pose, and post, seeking out fame
Their online personas just have no shame
So here's to true friends I know who you are
You'd drop what you're doin' and come from afar
You say what you mean and do what you say
And I can count on you at the end of the day
Now I've been accused of being maudlin
Buy me a drink and I'll treat ya like kin
But if you break a promise, too little too late
It's gonna be hard for me not to berate
You might try to pull the wool over my eyes
Thinkin' that you've got the best of this guy
I might even let you get away with it once
But trick me a second time then I'm the dunce
So here's to true friends I know who you are
You'd drop what you're doin' and come from afar
You say what you mean and do what you say
And I can count on you at the end of the day
So through the days I've just whittled it down
That short list of folks whom I can count on
For them I would give the shirt off my back
And I trust they won't mention my absent six pack
So here's to true friends, I know who you are
You'd drop what you're doin' and come from afar
You say what you mean and do what you say
And I can count on you at the end of the day
You say what you mean and do what you say
And I can count on you 'til the end of my days
Who hang with you only to borrow banknotes
No they have no guilt in their transparency
But ask them the same and just watch them flee
Then there's some friends out there on Facebook
Who beg you to like them and give them a look
