Waiting for Bad News

At some point I stopped listening
The stories all sounded the same
Take the over every time you can
Of human preference for the insane

But somehow we're still holding on
We still find reason to care
And we still help our neighbors
Tell our friends we'll always be there

Why are we always waiting for the bad news to come?

You want a value you can count on?
You want a moral law?
When falling back is the pattern
We just repeat what is wrong

But what is wrong makes us angry
Sometimes we don't see it at first
Every time we value the show
There's an equal and opposite burst

Why are we always waiting for the bad news to come?

Can you quantify nothing?
Can you picture a void?
Add up every angry storm
Is the sum a world destroyed?

That's why we're always waiting for the bad news to come
