Golden Eras
I'm clinging to this moment as if I'm certain it will end up as my last
But soon the moment fades away and I find that I'm stuck living in the past
And it seems that when I blink my eyes these snapshots end before they have begun
'Cause golden eras rise and fall with the dawning and the setting of the sun
As the seconds pass their broken fragments slowly pile up one piece at a time
And before I know it there in front of me lies a mountain I can't climb
And as the sun steadily sinks the mountain swallows all of its remaining light
And so another golden era much too soon is laid to rest by restless night
So I rummage through the darkness with these bloody hands trying to save face
But there's a writing on the wall that no chemical or paint coat can erase
And as I'm searching for the words I realize now that there's nothing more to say
'Cause even though that writing's there I can train myself to look the other way
I'm clinging to this moment as if I'm certain it will end up as my last
But my stomach's in a knot at the thought of being trapped within the past
'Cause now I've come to understand that even though this precious golden era's done
That the night is shortest with my eyes fixed to the east as I wait for a new sun
