The Farmer

Worlds away and long ago
A lovesick farmer sewed a row
Of riddles, hopes and dreams
Breakfast in bed, two cups of coffee with cream
The years went by and he got wise
A cynical world poisoned his eyes
He forgot where he planted those seeds
Surely by now his crops are covered in weeds

You'll grow bitter through the years
If you water with your tears
But if you let your love flow
You just might reap what you sow
The story has a happy end
The farmer found his special garden again
The pretty maiden came around
She tended his heart and now their basket abounds

Don't let happiness pass you by
Love only flourishes when you try
So take your watering can
And water the land
And you will see
How happy you'll be
Oh yeah, the farmer was me
