Building Bigger Barns

The ground of a certain rich man
Brought forth abundantly
His barns were filled
Till they couldn't hold any more
With a heart filled with pride
He said I'll just build bigger barns
He didn't take into account
What lay in store

A lesson we should learn
Is that our life does not consist
In the abundance of the things
That we possess
There's precious little time
Between the cradle and the grave
We'll only take what's done for Christ
And leave the rest

So lay your treasures up in Heaven
Where a moth cannot destroy
Where thieves can't steal
And rust can do no harm
Build on a firm foundation
Gold and silver and precious stone
Don't spend your whole life
Building bigger barns

When our work here is over
Before the Saviour's throne we'll stand
And give account of how
We've done our part
Will we find we've won a crown
To lay at His precious feet
Or that we've spent our whole life
Building bigger barns

So lay your treasures up in Heaven
Where a moth cannot destroy
Where thieves can't steal
And rust can do no harm
Build on a firm foundation
Gold and silver and precious stone
Don't spend your whole life
Building bigger barns
