Birthday

Minutes move so easily,
And seconds slip away from me.
What can I do to try and slow the time?
With every moment I let pass,
I fear each breath could be my last.
Can't keep this ticking clock from off my mind.

Another year will come and go,
And I will grow in things I know,
Though, I will never know the reason why.
Then, one day old mortality,
Will rear his ugly head at me.
What will I say when he asks, "Who was I?"

Flashing lights, and I pull to the side.
Rolling down my window through apologetic eyes.
He gives a nod. He has my attention, and Oo,
He asks, "Do you know how fast you're going?"
I say, "Of course I do."
Oo. Oh.

Hang up the banners, streamers too.
A party, and it's all for you.
A big parade with all the ones you know.
Just blow out all your candles, dear,
And wish that you'll be back next year,
To sweep up the confetti when the go.

Red and blue, so I pull to the side.
Rolling down my window through two innocent blue eyes.
He gives a nod. I know his intention, and Oo,
He says, "You don't know how fast you're going."
I say, "Of course I do."
Oo. Oh. Of course I do. Oo.
Oh.

Congratulations! Glasses up!
A toast to you! A toast to us!
You're beautiful and still feel like you're five!
Oh, many people are not here,
But here you are, another year!
How lucky we all are to be alive!

We are so lucky...
How about a party?
Come join the party...

One more round and drinks on us.
Your pretty smile's begun to rust,
Just, one year closer to the day you die...
(I was joking.)
Many people are not here,
But, here's to having one more year!
How lucky we all are-
How lucky we all are to be-
How lucky we all are to be alive.
