Melancholy Tea
When I was seven
It was the first time I felt blue
I didn't know what I should do
So I called my mom and told her all about the world
But now that I'm older
Those blues aren't blue at all
They're just red
And someone said it's the chemicals fucking with my head
It's alright if I'm crazy
But I don't think I am
'Cause I know
That god just gave me one too many drops
That stuff that's known to me
what I like to call melancholy tea
If you want the recipe
On how to make that melancholy tea
You take two drops lonely
Three parts hurt and your oldest memory
Then you'll mix it in a jar for catching fireflies
And a summer by the sea
And you'll give it to your father
Have him stir in all the times he wasn't there
Then you'll hand it to your mother
She'll add in every tear you ever made her cry
Then the sky turns gray
And you'll mix it all with the falling rain
Then you'll sing and drink that jar down 'til it's gone
That stuff that's known to me, what I like to call melancholy tea
Come sit down beside me
And make yourself right at home
And though we're together we'll always feel alone
And now that I'm older
I feel that I can say what's on my mind
I love this melancholy living
This stuff is alright
And you might think that I'm crazy
But at least I've got you by my side, baby
We'll sing those old songs
And burn our dying memories
The stuff that's known to us
What we'll always call
That stuff that brings you home
When you're down
That melancholy tea
It was the first time I felt blue
I didn't know what I should do
So I called my mom and told her all about the world
But now that I'm older
Those blues aren't blue at all
They're just red
