Wake up every day swearing i'm gonna do it

If you can hold your focus and you keep it moving on, keep it moving on

Never be afraid to try to prove it to yourself
See i'm always trying to be more alert and more responsive
Always try to elicit more positive responses
Cuz darkness, will never be the answer to the darkness
Only light can do that so come along and spark this
Much higher mission, the goal is just to listen
To our fellow man and to embrace our position

Growing up i was like a lot of kids my age in the 80s
I had big dreams of the NBA
I was gonna be famous i swore, i was gonna be on the court
Right next to Magic Michael Larry and more
But right around the time when i was 12 years old
Somebody older scolded me and hit me with some bold shit like
"Understand there's no chance you'll ever play
And that's just a truth you'll have to realize some day"
And i remember thinking oh my god it's so harsh
It was so cold and direct it hit me right in my heart
It was so brutally honesty but i guess the truth was upon us
Cuz i soon came to realize that the truth as an artist
Is that at least i'll always have music she'll never leave me
I might never be like Prince or Stevie but i'll always be free
As long as i can sing and pluck strings then i'll always see these
Life and times as beautiful so come along with me please
