Wasted Summer

I wrote a letter to myself and I had it sent
So that it'd be there ready and waiting in the event
Of summer coming and passing by yet again
I know that no one can guilt trip me like I can

So here I'm out of excuses
I'm left to my own devices
Completely unchaperoned

I won't have this much time to waste when I'm older
I feel kinda bad about throwing it away
I'll get a face tattoo
Maybe you name on my shoulder

I cancel plans so I can sleep in the sun
It's no wonder that August comes and I can't remember a single day
I can choose to live it up or not, but in the end
It's just another wasted summer

Is it so bad if I don't move an entire day?
It's not like anybody else really gets a say
It's so much pressure that it almost takes away the fun
So it goes, I don't owe anything to anyone

I won't have this much time when I'm older
I feel kinda bad about throwing it away
I'll get a face tattoo
Maybe your name on my shoulder

I cancel plans so I can sleep in the sun
It's no wonder that August comes and I can't remember a single day
I can choose to live it up or not, but in the end
It's just another wasted summer

My calendar is blank
Save for birthdays and a dentist appointment
I try to pack the days with things I wanna do
But I know that the plans always fall through

I won't have this much time to waste when I'm older
I feel kinda bad about throwing it away
I'll get a face tattoo
Maybe your name on my shoulder

I cancel plans so I can sleep in the sun
It's no wonder that August comes and I can't remember a single day
I can choose to live it up or not, but in the end
It's just another wasted summer
