Something Important

Oh...
Sometimes when I am doing something I really enjoy
A friend knocks the door so I let her in
She asks me,
what are you up to?
And I say, I don't know... nothing much
Maybe I'll have a few books open looking at pages I like to see
Or I'm listening to music
Probably the telly's on
And before she asked me what I was doing, I felt like I was really doing something
Only now I am not so sure
All the mountains high
And the streams running high
They don't ask why, why do I
Something doesn't make
Everytime I ask myself why
Why I do that thing
Shouldn't I be doing something important
Maybe I'm doing nothing, just running through a film in my mind
Or listening to cars outside on the street
Then there will be a voice in my head
The voice comes and she said
Shouldn't you be doing something important
Cuz look at you sitting through time and time running through you
And away with you
and what have you got to show for your time
I don't know...
All I know is I didn't worry about showing anything for my time
Before I asked that question why
Cuz something doesn't make
Everytime I ask myself why
Why I do that thing
Shouldn't I be doing something important
All the mountains high
And the streams running high
They don't ask why, why do I
