The Hermit
I was wearing a lace camisole
Underneath my knit sweater but it fit kind of small
And the sweater wasn't right for the weather
No it wasn't right at all
Hanging out with the hermit from downtown
He helps me with my homework and makes me laugh 'til I can't frown
He'll look at me like he's known me for years
Then he'll go and let me down
My tangled hair kept blowing in my face
The tattered bindings of my scores were tearing at the lace
And the hermit, he got lost in the city park
Took a tumble down the hill and work up in the dark
Now my misfit party is rather stark
I was painting the Toronto skyline
On a piece of spare cardboard when I spilt my glass of wine
But the red built a sunset so the painting is looking rather fine
Hanging out with the hermit from the suburbs
He tells me how to tend a garden and grow the finest herb
He'll look at me like he's known me for years
Then he'll kick me to the curb
My tangled hair kept blowing in my face
The tattered bindings of my scores were tearing at the lace
And the hermit, he got lost in the city park
Took a tumble down the hill and work up in the dark
Now my misfit party is rather stark
Doo
I was dancing upon a wooden table
At the pub on the corner while a Scotsman sang a folkish fable
They clapped and chanted, while I stomped my feet until I wasn't able
Hanging out with the hermit from the highlands
He took me on a lengthy tour of castles on the island
He'll look at me like he's known me for years
And build a history in our silence
My tangled hair kept blowing in my face
The tattered bindings of my scores were tearing at the lace
And the hermit, he got lost in the city park
Took a tumble down the hill and work up in the dark
Now my misfit party is rather stark
Yea my misfit party is rather stark
The hermit and his fairy princess in the dark
Doo
Underneath my knit sweater but it fit kind of small
And the sweater wasn't right for the weather
No it wasn't right at all
Hanging out with the hermit from downtown
He helps me with my homework and makes me laugh 'til I can't frown
He'll look at me like he's known me for years
