In the Thaw

Hear of a place, women are warm, they make you grin
Up rivers a heaven if ya never ever been

Some drink their fill, in the eclipse they clearly see
A suck from the still down river never free

Off the mark, drift the view, blur the ranks
From the bottom settle the slide, slope the banks

Against winter white pine tar gives up black
Smoke is a trapline, day draws a faint track

Less teeth in the trees, it's more the cold that takes bite
Drapes of a shadow melt reveal my firelight

Come tell a story so savage as warm loin serves your maw
Cold proof warms the passage, dream tonight in the thaw
