Burning Blueprints

We could stare for hours at the tapestry of stars
The moon is like a giant pearl tonight
Sitting down just hoping to
Observe the reddish glow of mars
I move my hands across a beam of moonlight
Steady bursts of laughter in-between our words
Remind us we're content to just exist
My vision wanders to a flower in the weeds
Petals reaching up to touch a chrystalis

Take one step into the mire
And I'm stuck inside the clay
We burned our blueprints in the fire
Now we watch the flames decay

Silent by the dock as the dawn comes creeping in
Sunlight takes a paintbrush to her lightly freckled skin
A western breeze is blowing on the lake
Waves converge and golden ripples emanate

Tomorrow she will sweep
Our scattered footprints from the shore
Coursing through these tranquil waters
The sand is left just as it was so long before
Tomorrow she will sweep
Our scattered footprints from the shore
Coursing through these tranquil waters
The sand is left just as it was so long before
