Rivers

Many rivers to cross & as many crosses to bare
But barely a penny for thoughts of the feelings I thought we shared
I was unaware of the cost, impossibly unprepared
Was obviously never taught but honestly never scared
These was normal days in the city where I was born & raised
Where the corner paid more than rockin a uniform to slave
No superheroes to save us, prayers vanish on the way up
Like why would thou forsake us for workin wit what he gave us
It was times I almost gave up but bit down on my mouthpiece
The ghetto tryin to kill me, the devil just wanna Faust me
Had my hands in everything from strong arms to outreach
And been stuck between a rock & hard place like a spare house key
But the older I get the wiser I grow
Done learned to roll wit the punches take the highs wit the low
Survive in the O & u can make it anywhere on the planet
Some of us leave only to learn that we still stranded
Never take a breath for granted just advantage of the day
Understanding this all a part of the plan so in a way
All the obstacles never was really standing in my way
But rather stepping stones towards makin me the man I am today
