Daytime Dreams

I lie awake on dreamless nights
I long for sleep to dream of light
For night is but a time of rest
A break before tomorrow's test

And if night brings no restful sleep
It doesn't do a lot for me
A time of fears and fleeting thoughts
I fear it so, I wish it not

Daytime dreams come at night for me
Waking me with the other side of earth while mine is sleeping
Slumber holds me with an open hand
Then leaves me where I am

And even as these thoughts invade
I hear a voice, I hear you say
That night is not just darkened thoughts
Where day has gone and light is lost

Daytime dreams come at night for me
Waking me with the other side of earth while mine is sleeping
Slumber holds me with an open hand
Then leaves me where I am

When sleep eludes my tired eyes, and
I'm waiting for the morning light
I will say that nighttime is time worth spending too

Daytime dreams come at night for me
Waking me with the other side of earth while mine is sleeping
Slumber holds me with an open hand
Slumber holds me with an open hand
When slumber leaves me I'll understand
And be happy where I am
