Insomniac Lullaby

Tell me a Story

Alright
There once was a boy and girl
They live in a tower alone
And past the time with games
Kings, queens, bishops and pawns
Each less significant than the last
Shuffling the secrets of their longings within their club of hearts
Supposedly content with their dress-up existence
Then one night the boy rolled over and said
"I dream as I wake
A dream of you and me
But as you sleep
You dream alone
Still yet we do dream
Yet still we lie"

I stay up and stare at the stars
But there's no stars in here
What I see instead swims in my head
It shows me what I don't want to see

There's a body next to me
She's the fire in my heart
But it's the light that I can't stand
If I fell asleep she'd wake me up
With a habit of holding my hand

The songs that I sang from insomnia
I tried to keep them from you
But you'd wake up and sing a chorus with me
And I'd just fall out of tune
Your harmony of pity
My melody of shame
But don't know what they mean
I'll sig when you want all the same

There's a wolf out my window
A noise in my head
A devil in my heart
Dancing with the dark
I try to listen
But I can't

Oh my God, I've been sleeping with ghosts
It haunts me I'm not in control
You give me something that I can't give back
Because in the light I'm vulnerable

The songs that I sang from insomnia
I tried to keep them from you
But you'd wake up and sing a chorus with me
And I'd just fall out of tune
But I'll sing when you want just the same
Yeah, I'll sing when you want just the same
