The Sourlands

Hopewell's in trouble, we've been told to retreat
I'm a wanted man because of my ink and my seat
They've torn up my land and chased away my family
So off to the Sourlands in the middle of New Jersey

What a bitter taste of freedom, what a black mark on my soul
What a way to escape from the burning of us all

My wife was so ill and my time was so rationed
A house was created while a house was abandoned
And I'll only survive amongst the rocks and the trees
So off to the Sourlands in the middle of New Jersey

Home! Home! A cave and a country
Running just to be free or oppression from the North Sea
So long to safety and comfort
Learning how to be hurt or my soul will be conquered

What a bitter taste of freedom, what a black mark on my soul
What a way to escape from the burning of us all

Well I'll only survive amongst the rocks and the trees
So off to the Sourlands in the middle of New Jersey
