Grow
Right after school, 5 days a week, hands in the dirt, planting seeds
Daddy said it would get us through the winter
Well like any 8 year old would do, I had to find the answer to
A question that I couldn't understand
So I asked Dad, "What does it take to make this garden grow?"
He looked at me, smiled and said "If you really want to know"
It takes a sun that shines
A sky that rains
Dirt that's richer than sugar cane
It takes the right time of year
A good piece of land
The right tool for the job in your hand
And as the days go by, son it may seem slow
But with a little bit of hard work,
and a whole lot of love, It'll grow
Right outta school,
I was running around, she came home from that college town
The prettiest thing my eyes had ever seen
It didn't take too long before I knew, I was in love and she was too
But scared to death cause I didn't know what to do
So I asked Dad, "What does it take to make a young love grow?"
He raised his head,
lowered his voice, "Son when you know, you'll know"
Cause It takes a hand to hold
A heart that's true
From now on son it ain't all about you
It takes a lifetime to get there
Through the good times and heartache
So just be sure to give more than you take
And as the years go by, son it may seem slow
But with a little bit of hard work, and a whole lot of love it'll grow
So I took his words to heart
We got married and made a brand new start
Then the day came we were filled with tears of joy
As the doctor entered the room and said it's a boy
Then I asked Dad, "What does it take to raise a boy like me?"
He just laughed and shook his head,
and said "Son you have all you need"
Cause It takes the strength of a father
The care of a mother
More love to give than you knew you had
It's a wild and crazy journey
At times it's tough but don't worry
There's not a single moment that you would ever take back
And as the years fly by, son it won't seem slow
Cause with a little bit of hard work, and a whole lot of love
You'll watch him grow
Like I watched you grow
Daddy said it would get us through the winter
Well like any 8 year old would do, I had to find the answer to
A question that I couldn't understand
So I asked Dad, "What does it take to make this garden grow?"
