Giraffe Song

When I got home, a songbird was singing
A tune I've known since birth
I never sang, for when I swam to reach it
I couldn't cross the surf

I'm a giraffe, so only I
Hear it soft and fine
The melody sends waves of frisson
Up my lengthy spine

And so the spark started a fire
I could not ignore
The simple wave, tender and violent
Right inside my door
