Carry Me Gently

Last night I had a dream
I floated high above the city walls
You held me in your arms
The distance helped me to make sense of it all

As we drifted over trees, all was silent but the breeze
And I felt I could be born anew
Certain and complete, a sense of inner peace
That I could put my faith in you

So carry me gently, don't let me fall
In you I entrust my fears and my hopes
Each of us travels gathering scars on our hands
When the first rule of love ought to be do no harm

Morning broke, you were not with me
Unsuprising, as it seems
The source of my affections exists but only in my dreams

Though the feelings lasted with me
Over hours, spanning days
I knew without a doubt
True love wasn't far away

Alone, but without fear, the roads ahead were clear
And I felt I could be born anew
Certain and complete, a sense of inner peace
That I could put my faith in you

So carry me gently, don't let me fall
In you I entrust my fears and my hopes
Each of us travels gathering scars on our hands
When the first rule of love ought to be do no harm
