New Lives for Old

They said he ran a carnival
Used to come to town
Till one September afternoon
He shut it down.
They tell me something happened
Some said he lost his mind
Now most September afternoons
this is what we find.
An old man on the corner where he used to sell his show
And he shouts what sounds like foolishness as the people come and go

New lives for old
Warm hearts for cold
If I got a deal for you today
Come on accept Christ this day
And get you new life for old.

He puts it in the papers
He goes from door to door
People said he was such a fool
to come back for more
Old friends are most repulsed and
They don't know what to say
Cos ever since that afternoon he's just been that way
It's likely that old man died and some came to take his place,

New lives for old
Warm hearts for cold
If I got a deal for you today
Come on accept Christ this day
And get you new life for old.

Remembering this story as I once passed through that town
I thought I ought to stop and see if he is still around
There was someone on that corner where I had he'd always stand
He chuckled when I asked where I can find that man
He said thank God that crazy fool finally died last spring.
Then I said
I'll take up where he left off then
Cos am pushing the same deal

New lives for old
Warm hearts for cold
If I got a deal for you today
Come on accept Christ this day
And get you new life for old (repeat)
