A Friendly Face

Someone pushed me from their car
Left in the middle of the street
In a town I've never been
Draped in someone else's skin
Wearing a suit of flashing lights
As I try to be discrete
If I forget the need to breathe
Take your time reminding me

On my way home
I can't remember which direction I should go
Friendly faces oft distract me from the road
Until I realize they were never there at all

Strain to see through swirling sand
Perspiration paints my palms
And falls from my face to the floor
I can't recall my name anymore
An apparition acting out
To see if she can hear my song
Even if she could, would she listen?
Would she catch what I've been missing?

On my way home
I can't remember which direction I should go
Friendly faces oft distract me from the road
Until I realize they were never there at all
On my way home
I can't remember which direction I should go
Friendly faces oft distract me from the road
Until I realize they were never there at all

Until a whisper snuffs the flame
In the darkest corner, huddled like a fool
I swear I could hear her utter my name
I swear I could hear her utter my name
