Marry Me (Commentary)

We are celebrating Thomas Rhett's new album
This is the "Life Changes" album release special on Big Machine Radio
I am Becca, we're talking to Thomas and alright
This next song, I was so wrapped up in the beautiful picture you were painting with "Marry Me"
And I was loving the lyrics and I'm like
Oh, it's Lauren story and it's so beautiful
And I think I was so wrapped up that I just kinda glossed over the line
That I'll hide out in the back (yeah)
In my mind I remember thinking it didn't make sense completely
And then you nail me with the chorus
And my mind was blown and I was sad and didn't see that one coming (yeah)

That's like one of those things like every time I play it for someone new
After the chorus I just like, you stick a fake dagger in my heart
Because it's like when you watch a movie and your two favorite characters die in the end (yes)
It's like the movie was great, but I really
I hated the ending, uh
And it's one of those things, you know

This song a lot of people have asked like
You know, how do you feel like?
Why did you put a song like this on your record?
And uhm, 'cause it's really it's like my what if song
It's like, there was a moment in time there, when me and Lauren were just friends
And it could have stayed that way if I had never gone and said anything to her
And kind of let her know how I've felt about her for a while and so

This is my encouragement to other people out there
That if you have something on your heart to say to somebody
You should probably say it because
Your life could definitely take a turn, and uh
This is what I felt like my life would have been like if I'd never gone and said anything

Kind of reminds me of that saying
I'd rather regret what I said than what I didn't say (yeah exactly)
Wow (yeah), well, I wanna warn everybody
Before you get completely wrapped up in the love and beauty of the first verse of "Marry Me"
Listen all the way through
It's an amazing song, I do love it even now, knowing what I know
But it'll throw you for a curve if you're not ready (yeah, absolutely)

It's called "Marry Me"
