Atavism

As I gaze into this fractured mirror
I fail to recognize the eyes that stare back
As I walk along this downtrodden path
I fall to my hands and knees, start to crack
These hands have touched the mouth of perpetuity
These eyes have seen shades of shades of grey
When one ventures the road less traveled
It seems fit it will all unravel

It seems fit it will all unravel
This tapestry tattered and torn
A far cry from the moment you were born
This apostle breathes
But is that really a life worth living
I beg to disagree

Hollow body and shallow heart
But mind resolved to find a start
She burns in passing this torch again
I breathe in harder now, maybe never again
It pushes the best of me just to be
All too sure of what I refuse to see
May light touch my heart to breathe
Honestly in failure's grip I find the brightest seed

Back to the start
Reluctantly
Back to the start
I refuse to see

This cataclysmic catastrophe
This trite altruistic travesty
Come clarity I feel it course through me
Never have I ever felt so whole
Filled with purpose I strive
Forward into the bleak
For I know there is nothing
Greater than myself

How does the old adage go again
All I do is win
How does it go again
This will never amount to nothing
Well that's better than standing for something
You don't believe in

So here we go and I'm ready to know
The depth of it all that you refuse to show
If we could choose to have nothing to lose
Then faulty conscience would give nothing to prove
The trepidation that I feel so strong
For all my words, could it be none were wrong
So I guess we'll start on familiar ground
With heavy heart, but body sound

Back to the start

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Then why do I see nothing but grey
