Wakefield's Dream #41
I woke up this morning, the sky was bleeding
Yeah when I woke up this morning, the sky was bleeding
Across her great face blue tears were streaming
I opened the window, dry heat was searing
Yeah I opened the window and dry heat was searing
The sun hung in the sky, softly flickering
I looked out the window to the west, out far off
Yeah I looked out to the west and all its fires far off
The world is burning while the rich play golf
I walked right through where there once were trees
Yeah I walked right through where there once were trees
This is the land where law's governed by money
I strolled through the deadlands, eroded and empty
Yeah I strolled through the wasteland, all barren and empty
Four dead crooked limbs lay crossing the pathway
I came to the cliff and stared over the sea
Yeah I climbed down the cliff, stared out over the sea
Stayed long as I could 'til water was to my knees
I got up from the rocks, and began to walk home
Yeah I up and left those rocks and started my way home
I watched pieces of the sky fall from the shape of the dome
I walked alongside the flooded city streets
Yeah I walked alongside the flooded city streets
Dogs were howling and people rushing, too busy to see
I walked past a boy, he handed me a newspaper
I walked past a little boy who handed me today's paper
It said greater storms are coming this way within the year
I looked to the city sky, saw the light had died
Yeah I looked up to the sky and saw the light had died
Under billowing and bellowing black clouds I ran to hide
I rushed through the door, I made it home after all
Yeah I rushed through the door, I made it home after all
Looking back out I can tell a hard rain's gonna fall
I turned on T.V., they're all worried but the politicians
Yeah everyone out here is worried but the corporatists
Yeah and I'd like to see them come down outside their mansions
I heaved a sad sigh and reached for the newspaper
I swept the sweat from my eye to read the newspaper
I read the month was December and I wondered what happened to winter
Yeah when I woke up this morning, the sky was bleeding
Across her great face blue tears were streaming
I opened the window, dry heat was searing
Yeah I opened the window and dry heat was searing
The sun hung in the sky, softly flickering
I looked out the window to the west, out far off
