Shotgun Messenger
Before today I was guilty of just loving the wrong girl
My sweet Maggie is the daughter of the cruel old Judge Deville
And he told me if I ever showed my face around this town
He'd lock up my sweet Maggie and put me six feet under ground
But my Maggie had ahold of me like no woman ever could
So I grabbed myself a six-gun so he'd know just where I stood
It was early in the morning before the sun started to rise
When I kicked the Judge's door down, put a bullet between his eyes
Then I grabbed my smiling Maggie and we lit out of that town
We were gone before Sheriff Dunn's polished boots had hit the ground
I was free to love my Maggie and I know she loved me so
We went riding hand in hand out on that open country road
We were running close to empty, yeah our luck was wearing thing
When we set upon a stage coach that was loaded to the brim
So I shot the shotgun messenger and I kicked the side door in
Then I stopped dead in my tracks, could not believe what I was seeing
He said, "Ain't you glad to see me cause I sure did miss you son"
I was standing on the gallows with a noose-knot round my neck
And my thoughts had turned to Maggie as I drew my final breath
That's when I saw the glimmer of a six-gun in the sun
My sweet Maggie standing in the crowd with sights on Sheriff Dunn
She put a bullet through the Hangman's rope and another through Dunn's chest
And we went riding hand in hand with loving hearts fixed on the west
My sweet Maggie is the daughter of the cruel old Judge Deville
And he told me if I ever showed my face around this town
He'd lock up my sweet Maggie and put me six feet under ground
But my Maggie had ahold of me like no woman ever could
So I grabbed myself a six-gun so he'd know just where I stood
It was early in the morning before the sun started to rise
When I kicked the Judge's door down, put a bullet between his eyes
